A photo of mine was used by the government!

I'm not one to toot my horn, but this made me feel really good.
I was contacted via Flickr by someone from the US Green Building Council in Louisiana. They wanted to know if a picture I had taken of a swamp in South Carolina to use as a header for their website! I told them yes as long as they would credit me. They agreed and now my picture is part of their site!

Go here to see the site (picture on top, name on the bottom). You can then go here to see my Flickr stream. The original picture (they cropped it) is here.

I'm making up for the lack of recent posting, and I'm on a Shure SM-55 kick. I wish I had never gotten rid of the one I had.

I love Flickr, if I haven't said that before.

I love jazz.
I also love Shure SM-55 microphones, like the one in the picture.
What else here? The angle, the tones, the LOOK of the subject is just great. Maybe one day I can strike a cool pose like that.

Photo Monday- U.S.S. Enterprise

Originally uploaded by jbwest.

An A-6 Intruder getting in position for takeoff on board the U.S.S. Enterprise, CVN-65. There is nothing extraordinary about the shot, but I love the color texture- very brown, almost reminiscent of WWII era photos- but not so brown as to be antique. A very nice mixture of modern imagery with a retro look and feel.

Photo Monday- yellow baby

Two pictures to make up for the lateness:

First, my little girl sitting in the La-z-boy:

Secondly, my friend Jason is going through his Ireland trip photos on his blog, Typing With Light.
Today he featured a very yellow building, and it is in fact deliciously yellow:

Bangor Abbey, Ireland 2002

For this week I'm self-indulging. This is a shot I took in Ireland in a place called Bangor in Northern Ireland. The light at the top of the spire is not Photoshopped- I somehow managed to capture that naturally! While the church is a bit dark, I think it's still a great shot. Taken with a Canon Rebel 2000, using some Kodak Supra 400 film.

I'm a sucker for old stuff. Old buildings, old cars (the abandoned, rusted kind), and old junk. It's probably why I prefer London over NYC- London has this old feel that makes it timeless, while NYC is still relatively new.

So today is officially flickr day. This is from the same shooter that took the Enterprise Fire Dept picture I posted a few weeks ago. Reliance, TN is not too far away, I may have to go check this one out one day....

Using the Stumbleupon plugin for firefox led me to this picture. It had no references or source info, so thanks to whomever created it. From the old look to the color scheme to the details, I think it's really beautiful. I just wanted to put it out there for others to enjoy.

This reminds me of the row of fire trucks that used to be along Harrison Pike in Cleveland, TN. I especially like the fact that despite of all the decay on the truck, you can still see the name.
